An Ambitious Boy
Everyone is just not passionate about music, dance, art or photography.
Some are truly passionate about technology or science. There was one boy named
Nick. He was 11 years old when his father got him a computer on his birthday.
He was very thrilled by the fact that even he could play games with his friends
and will be popular among his classmates as he had a brand new computer. He
started playing games but that could only entertain him for 2 weeks and then he
was bored by the games. He started to code and found it very fascinating that
by learning this he could code his own game. He started to learn coding at the
age of 11 and was a master at it in just 2 years. Till the time coding was
actually taught in his school he already knew it. Juniors and seniors came to
him to clear their doubts and Nick was happy doing that.
He was brilliant at
coding and had won a lot of prizes. He always got an 100 in computer but had
barely enough to pass in the other subjects. He did not like any other subject.
Now he could have been a pioneer in his field one day but the education system
does not support talent and creativity. It only supports the individuals who
has rank 1 or rank 2 even if he has no skills. He passed his 10th grades with an
average percentage which did not let him into any science college. His father
literally gave lacs of rupees and admitted him into a private college. He was given coaching for
almost 7 hours a day. His father took away his computer and replaced it with
previous year question paper and mock test sheets.
Those
two years were the worst years of his life. To get a computer science degree
from a good college in India, you are supposed to be good at mathematics,
physics and chemistry and clear the engineering entrance exam. Nick hardly
could do it as he liked nothing but computer. He would attend his school,
coaching classes and then walk back home depressed. He was weak in physics and
could not understand the concepts. He moved far beyond from his passion and his
first love and that was computers. On the entrance exam day he got nervous and
was already depressed. He could not clear any entrance exam.
People who had no knowledge about coding and
computers were now in IIT’s and Nick who was already an expert could not get
into any good college just because he was bad at solving problems of physics.
Nick’s confidence was shattered and he felt as if it was the end of the world. In
spite of having the right skills needed he could not achieve anything where as
his friends who just mugged up and secured well in their examinations had extremely
bright future. He got even more depressed. India lost a true computer genius
who could have done great things in the future. India lost a gem. Even if
the system changes, it has already killed millions of dreams.
